This year I wrote several pieces about different subjects. I have chosen two to talk about. I wrote about the best summer I have ever had. I had to remember specific details that went on during my trip. When I wrote thisI was learning about brushstrokes and adjectives shifted out of order and other things to make my writing better. My scarlett Letter essay was written about how Jesus and Hester were scapegoats in their societies. In this essay I quoted form the book and supported what I was saying from the text. I have learned many things from this class to make me a better writer. I have learned about the correct usage of commas, run-on sentences, and just tips in general.
For my revision, I had to go back and read through from what I wrote before. I saw many words that were misspelled, and there were some sentences that did not even make sense. I also tried to make my essay a little more interesting, it was kind of bland an In my Scarlet Letter essay, I decided to talk more about why Hester was made a scapegoat in her society. I corrected many comma errors, and made my wording better.
All the essays written were all really well written but there were a few that I really liked. Cauley's nature essay was very descriptive in the part where she describedthe way out to the woods. It was very funny and fun to read. I also really like Lewis' scarlet letter essay, I liked that he chose the victims of the Nazi-Germany as a scapegoat. He gave many examples of the scapegoat in today's socities. I also really liked Chelsea's Christmas essay. The story was cute and well written. I'm not the best writer and reading all these essays gives me ideas of how to make my writing better.
Throughout history, there have many people that have been a scapegoat for their societies. People think that it is easier to punish one person instead of the whole society. Nobody wants to get blamed for what they have done wrong so they choose someone to pay for all of the things they have done wrong. The person who ends up being the scapegoat, is the person that everyone should thank. The Scarlet Letter shows a person who is willing to help and willing to compromise, it also everyone in today's society has a scapegoat.
Before all of us were born, there was one person willing to die to take the place for all of our sins. That person is Jesus Christ. He died so all of the people in the world could have forgiveness, and not have to worry about paying the price for their sins in a spiritual way. He did it without a complaint, he loved all of us so much that he was willing to pay the ultimate price. He was so willing to help everyone and try and lead people to do the right thing and think of others before yourself. Before he died everyone was so angry with him, but he still showed love to everyone. Jesus did not judge anyone, he wanted everyone to be the best that they can be and accepted people for who they are. "For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish but have everlasting life." ( John 3:16)
Like Jesus, Hester is a scapegoat in her society. She commits this horrible sin of adultery and now because of the laws, has to wear a big "A" on her at all times. And because she has done this, all of the bad things that happen to the society are blamed on her. The town probably think of it as a curse, because she committed adultery, bad things are going to happen. Every time she walked through town people looked at her and were very judgemental of her, they were so mean to her. Like Jesus she never said anything when these people were saying all those mean things to her. She never complained about having to wear that letter, she was ashamed of it but never complained. Hester wanted to help the people in her society. "The letter was a symbol of her calling. Such helpfulness was found in her- so much power to do and power to sympathize- that many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by its original signification. They said it meant Able; so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman's strength. " ( 113) This means that even the people in her society were beginning to see that she wants to help and that she is a strong woman with love and compassion. Hester really loved her daughter that she was even willing to die for her. When Pearl was going to be taken away from her Hester said this, "Ye shall not take her, I will die first." (64) This shows such bravery and love. Hester is a strong woman and she should be looked up to. She didn't want anyone to go through what she had to go through and that is what makes her a scapegoat. Hawthorne chose her as a scapegoat just for the simple fact that she was the one in the society that had done something worse than the other people in the society. It was easier to choose her because she had already done something wrong.
Nobody really understands a scapegoat's life. They don't understand the things that they have to go through and the feeling that they have that everyone in the town that they live in is looking at them funny. People like Hester and Jesus deserve respect and sometimes they don't get it, but that doesn't stop them from wanting help all people and forgiving all people.
The greatest summer I have ever had was when Laura came to Las Vegas with me for the whole summer. I was moving back to Las Vegas and she was dying to come with me.
Throughout the week we were supposed to leave, we had to pack everything in the car, which is a green suburban that seated eight people. Our luggage was placed on top of the car in a carrier, and on the back of the car we had a hitch with a stand on it that held more of our luggage. There was eight people in the car, three dogs, and two cats. My mom and my dad were in the front seats, my three brothers were in the back seat and Laura, me and my sister were in the very back seat. The dogs were in the very back in the cargo area. Needless to say, it was a tight fit. Extremely bored, Laura and I tried to think of ideas to make us not so bored. We started singing and waving at everyone we passed, everyone that saw probably thought that we were idiots. We had driven for two days straight, all of us were extremely tired.
We finally stopped at a Holiday Inn in Alberqueque, New Mexico. My brother and sister, jumping with joy ( adjective shifted out of order), were so excited to not be sitting in a car anymore. The hotel had a pool so we went swimming, and later we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant called Sadie's. When we got back to the hotel Laura and I were just hanging out. We were talking on the phone and we dressed my little brother up as a girl, it was so funny because he could have passed for a girl. Laura told me that she had to tell me something, but she did not want to tell me inside so we went outside. We were out there talking and then there were these two scary-looking guys that started walking towards us. Scared ( participle) , Laura and I decided to go back inside but the door was locked. We were banging on the door for my brothers to let us in but it took them a while to get to the door but we finally got in. About an hour later Laura told me she had to tell me something again. This time when we went outside we brought the room key just in case. The two guys came back and we were so scared. We tried to open the door with the room key but it would not work. We started running in place ( active voice) at the door and Laura started screaming " We don't have the ice". It does not make any sense to why she was saying that, but Laura being the crazy girl she is, made the scary guys start laughing at us. We still could not get inside, but because we were leaning on the door we fell when we finally got in. Breathing hard ( absolute), Laura and I decided not to go back outside again. The next moring we left the hotel and continued our journey to Las Vegas. When we finally got to Las Vegas we had many other adventures and good times. We went swimming everyday. Trying to be cool, Laura decided to dive off the diving board and her swim bottoms fell off. It was really funny. Laura was only there for three weeks and it was so much fun. I loved it, like I said earlier it was the greatest summer I ever had.
